Teen Facials- How to beat the Acne Attack!
While over 20 million Americans suffer from acne every day, no age group deals with the negative effects of this skin condition more than teens. Roughly 90% of young adults will be affected by acne at some point between the ages of 10-16, so with what seems to be an inevitable condition, how can we help? We spoke to our Lead Medical Aesthetician, Bobbi Del Balzo, who recommends Teen Facials that are designed to specifically address breakouts that are frequently associated with adolescent skin. Occurring in both boys and girls during puberty, an increase in Androgen hormones cause the oil glands in the skin to become larger and produce more sebum. Teen Facials help with persistent teen skincare troubles and work to prevent the problem before they start.
“When looking for skincare assistance, many teens will first think to go to a dermatologist. Prescription medications can often cause skin to become very sensitive, dry and red, causing teens to become even more self-conscious than before they started treatment.” Bobbi explained how after trying multiple prescription ointments and antibiotics, teens may not notice the results they were hoping for. Many will then often go to option number two, buying over the counter acne products. These products can also dry out the skin, while masking the real underlying issues. “At a medical spa, such as Deep Blue Med Spa, we can provide medical grade products which are highly concentrated and will deeply penetrate to help the condition, leaving the patient with minimal anticipated reactions.”
What is involved? If the patient is under 18 years of age, we require that they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. After a thorough skin analysis, we create a customized corrective care plan. We usually recommend our teen patients start with routine facials every 3-6 weeks until their skin starts to improve. In addition, we teach our teens the importance of preventative skincare and easy to use at home recommendations.
Teen facials typically begin with a deep cleansing and exfoliation, accompanied by steam and gentle extractions. A healing mask will then be applied to help rehydrate dry, flaky skin, reduce inflammation and eliminate oily, clogged particles. Depending on the severity of the acne, it may require a deeper Detox Facial and/or another form of intervention that is offered at Deep Blue Med Spa.
