What’s So Cool About CoolPeel?
If you’re a skincare buff like us, you’ve likely heard about the incredible benefits of CO2 laser treatments. Ideal for managing a variety of concerns including texture, pigmentation, and signs of aging, CO2 lasers work by applying controlled thermal damage to the superficial layer of skin without compromising surrounding tissue. Through this heat energy the production of collagen is increased helping to promote tighter, smoother skin.
However, what makes CoolPeel standout from traditional CO2 lasers is that this Tetra ablative laser treatment delivers high energy in very precise, short pulses- meaning the skin is experiencing less lingering heat than with other CO2 lasers. In turn this leads to less damage to surrounding skin and a faster, milder recovery time for patients. So, what concerns can CoolPeel help with?
Acne scars, age and dark spots, enlarged pores, fine lines and wrinkles, scars, and texture- just to name a few!
To learn more about what the treatment entails, we tapped Aesthetic Provider, Kaylin Salubro, NP, to explain the process.
HOW WE DETERMINE IF YOU’RE A CANDIDATE:
KS: Most patients with pigmentation or textural concerns could benefit from this treatment. If you are looking for improvement in photodamaged skin with fine lines/wrinkles, large pores, and any type of scarring, you are a good candidate. However, you cannot be treated if you are pregnant or have an active infection at the treatment site.
WHAT PREPPING FOR THE TREATMENT ENTAILS:
KS: Prior to treatment, you should avoid sun exposure for four weeks and sunless tanners for two weeks. Retinol and other harsh skin products should be stopped at least one week prior, and you should not be taking any photosensitizing medications, like antibiotics, when undergoing treatment. It is important to consult with a provider before scheduling your treatment, as we may want to prophylactically treat you with Valtrex if you have a history of cold sores or prep your skin with a melanin inhibitor (like hydroquinone) depending on your skin type.
WHAT THE TREATMENT IS LIKE:
KS: The treatment itself is relatively quick, usually no longer than 15-20 minutes. It provides such minimal discomfort that many patients choose to forgo topical numbing cream. The short pulses delivered do not allow heat to accumulate so you will experience some warmth, which is very manageable, during the procedure.
WHAT RECOVERY LOOKS LIKE:
KS: This treatment requires minimal downtime. Your skin may feel a warm/sunburn sensation for about an hour following treatment and you may experience slight redness and roughness of the skin in the days to come. It is important to stay out of the sun, avoid harsh skin products, and keep your skin hydrated as your skin heals from the procedure.
