Acne Scar Reduction
Acne
Acne, a chronic condition that can leave life-long scars, is characterized by “crater-like” indentations in the skin. Although proper treatment can minimize scarring, there are several dermatological procedures that can help reduce the appearance of existing flaws. These procedures include microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and laser resurfacing. The award-winning doctors at New York Plastic Surgical Group have also developed a unique multi-modal treatment for more severe acne scarring.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion may be used to minimize small scars, minor skin surface irregularities, surgical scars and acne scars. Microdermabrasion uses exfoliation to lift off the top layers of skin, revealing healthier skin cells and a smoother appearance.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are used to minimize sun-damaged skin, irregular pigment and superficial scars. By applying select chemicals to the skin, the top layer is lifted off, revealing a fresh, smooth new layer.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing sloughs off damaged and flawed skin. It is particularly effective in reducing the appearance of acne scars. When imperfections are deeply embedded in the skin, more than one treatment may be necessary.
Multi-modal Treatment
The plastic surgeons at NYPS Group have developed a series of techniques which treat acne scars through various layers of the skin.
This highly effective treatment combines injections of Sculptra® Aesthetic with Subcision to reduce even the most severe acne scarring. Each treatment includes:
- STEP ONE: A numbing cream is applied to the affected areas of the skin.
- STEP TWO: Sculptra® Aesthetic is carefully injected into the affected areas of the face to stimulate the production of new collagen.
- STEP THREE: A procedure called Subcision is performed to release the scars that have formed deep within the tissue below the skin’s surface.
For optimal results, the multi-modal acne scar reduction treatment may be complemented by laser skin resurfacing treatments to stimulate the superficial layer of the skin to fill in the deficit. Topical microdermabrasion and medical grade skin care may also be recommended.
Micro-needling
Advanced micro-needling technology to helps rejuvenate, restore, and tighten the skin. It’s proven to help with undesirable issues such as, wrinkles, fine lines, and acne scarring. This treatment allows collagen induction with delivery of fractional micro-needles in to the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin. The micro-injuries induce the body’s innate ability to repair the skin through the collagen induction.
